Retailer: Christian Louboutin
Location: Meat packing district
Date: 9/19/12
How the window reinforces the retailers image: This window has a very direct theme which parallels to the easily-spotted red sole of a pair of Louboutins. The doctors office scene with the x-rays of the shoes gives off the vibe that the brand is confident with the craftsmanship of their product, as if they have it down to a science. The occupation of a doctor, as used in this environment, speaks to the high-end customer who can afford what their brand offers.
Color Scheme: Analogous with pops of primary in the yellow of the lamp and the red carpet peeking through.
Visual Effects: The decreasing size of the "Christian Louboutin" letters draws the viewers eye to the floor of the shoes, as does the lamp pointing in their direction. The diagonal box in the left window keeps the rhythm moving from one side to the other and gives the otherwise very still looking window some action.

Retailer: Anthropology
Location: Chelsea Market

How the window reinforces the retailers image: The use of real, natural leaves on the painted window compliments the easy-going looks on the mannequins and sticks with the brand's eco-friendly image. Its crafty, yet sophisticated.
Color Scheme: Analogous
Visual Effects: The vertical lines give off the feeling of confidence. The mannequins set at different heights keeps the rhythm moving across the window the the details of the individual leaves. The horizontal line at the bottom provided by the root of the tree creates a more solid environment and foundation for the mannequins.

MOOD BOARDS FOR ARTIST/ACCESSORY WINDOW

The first artist I chose was Allison Schulnik, the clay artist who also directed and created the Grizzly Bear video for their song, Ready Able. I paired this artist with my geometric printed bangle, which replicates the playful bright colors in Schulnik's work.
The next artist I chose was Lana Del Rey. Along with her vocal talent, Lana also demonstrates her artistic abilities in a handful of her videos that she directs and edits herself using webcam videos paired with clips from archive footage. Stills from these videos Lana created would be featured in a collage on the back wall of the window, with the floral headband draped over a replica throne from her "Born To Die" video. There would also be a window decal with her lyrics that read: "I think I'll miss you forever like the stars miss the sun in the morning skies."

WEEK TWO WINDOWS

Retailer: Kate Spade
Location:
Date: 9/5/12
How the window reinforces the retailer's  image: The window is very simple and fresh looking which reflects the brands image very well. The pop-art-like decals add visual interest while maintaining a feeling of sophistication.
Color Scheme: The use of complimentary colors creates a contrast that makes the window pop and demand attention from the people passing by. Keeping the color of the clothing neutral with pops of red gives the complimentary green dot new purpose.
Visual Effects: The use of the decals draw the customers attention right to the smartly-dressed mannequins and balances the eye away from the large text in the opposite window. Balance is also created with the use of the green dot; however, i think it would be even better to switch both the dots and mannequins of the left and center positions.

THREE SUCCESSFUL WINDOWS

Retailer: UNIQLO Kids
Location: 34th between 7th & 6th
Date: 9/5/12
Brief Description: This window displays mannequins of children from all ages they sell to with props such as teddy bears and ladders.
How the window reinforces the retailers' image: The friendly nature and colorful display reflects the age groups and is family oriented. I didn't, however, like the hanging pictures-they didn't add interest, they only detracted from the displays below
Color scheme used and atmosphere created by color: created by color: The full spectrum color scheme appeals to the age group it is trying to appeal to while it creates an inviting, playful atmosphere to the customer on the street.
Visual effects created by line and balance: Both horizontal and vertical lines were used which added to the playful feel of the display, and the different heights were well distributed for balance.

Retailer: H&M
Location: 34th Street between 7th and 6th
Brief Description: The window has a bold appeal with the bright wigs contrasted the dress of the model, and makes you take a second glance.
How the window reinforces the retailers image: The models were dressed simple but still of trend. The colored wigs are nice and playful, but I would rather see them in black to make it bold but still appealing to professionals. I did think it was wise to use a large number of mannequins.
Color Scheme: The cool color scheme sets itself apart form the normal warm fall colors.
Visual Effects: The window has a concrete, formal balance while remaining playful for its younger customers. The racks of clothing is showcasing that the store has good organization although it may not.
